October 2006 Job of the Month
IICon Contractors had a job at the Claude Pepper Federal Building in downtown Miami to replace the smoke evacuation fans at the top of the building. The fans were too big to fit in the elevator and the top of the building was 256’ high. They had considered the helicopter option since the units were quite light, but the congested airspace downtown made this a somewhat risky proposition. They also did not want to go to the expense of a 300 ton class machine just to get an 800lb fan on the roof. We proposed to use our 120 ton Demag to just get the units up on the edge where they could be rolled into position. As you can see from the photos, there was not a lot of room to spare!!! The job went off without a hitch and the customer was extremely pleased.
