Self-erecting tower cranes have long been popular in Europe, but until recently, they had failed to make much headway in the US. This has started to change as larger, higher capacity models have been introduced that are better suited to contractors’ needs here in the States.
There are many advantages of self-erecting tower cranes both when compared against truck mounted, mobile towers and when compared against traditional fixed mount electric climbers. Some of the advantages are as follows:
- quick erection time
- small jobsite footprint
- low setup cost when compared to alternative cranes
- quiet operation using electric motors
- remote control operation allows operator to see lifting operations at all times which often eliminates the need for a dedicated flagman
We recently made our first foray into self-erecting tower cranes by renting one for a project in Hollywood. We were so impressed with the capabilities of the machine that we went ahead and added a Potain HDT80 to our fleet. If you have a job that might need a self-erecting tower crane, please give us a call to discuss this option.
The HDT80 is well suited for:
- commercial construction
- residential construction
- select HVAC work
- landscaping(especially on pool decks and parking garages)
- all up and over type work
- confined jobsites
